Our Last Night

Not much to report today. The 260 miles from Needles to Bakersfield were very uneventful. We listened to an audio book, stopped a few times to stretch, got gas at Flying J in Barstow, had lunch in the trailer in the Flying J parking lot, and arrived at Orange Grove RV Park on highway 58 east of Bakersfield at about 4 o’clock. We have stayed here every time we go east or west on a southern itinerary. It has full hookups, large spaces, and lots of orange trees. This leaves us about 260 miles for the drive to Livermore. We will take highway 99 north this time for a change of scenery instead of the boring I-5 route.

As we look back on the three weeks we have been on the road we have many highlights:

  • So far, we have had no issues with the truck or the trailer, for which we are very thankful.
  • We enjoyed our time in Mesa with Cathy spending five days with us.
  • We enjoyed the ball games, Musical Instrument Museum, and amenities at the Good Life RV Resort.
  • Our five days in Durango with Scott, Veronica, and Lassen were very pleasant but went by too quickly.
  • I was able to complete the three major tasks that I brought with me: evaluating a church educator’s exam, completing the minutes of the Pilgrims of Ibillin board meeting, and dealing with all the copy editor’s work on the Acts of the Apostles from Scratch manuscript and submitting it a day before the deadline.

Pat and I commented this evening that we are truly blessed to have two comfortable homes; our apartment in Livermore and our trailer on wheels, in addition to the blessings of good health, a loving family, an enjoyable and safe journey, and sharing it all with each other.

We are looking forward to getting home tomorrow and all that awaits us there. I may not be adding many posts between now and our next long weekend trip in May. And then we will have a month-long adventure in June with our grandson, Lassen, followed by time in Durango again and possibly visiting a couple of National Parks on our way home.
